Followed by 2 or 3 Tapisrv errors. Then it reboots and Windows loads as normal. But then when I go to re-install Frontpage 2000, I get a rundll32 error. This also happens when using Powerdesk. My Compaq quick restore programs now fail to load.
I cannot think of what to try next. I have searched endlessly on the net for a solution.
I first decided to do a quick restore (Compaq option that restores c: drive to factory setting) to give my computer a 'fresh start'. I was getting a rpcss.exe error on startup after this. I followed someones solution to this on this bb (change auto dial connection setting in registry).
I have a Compaq EZ2200. 500Mhz Celeron. 128M Ram, Win98. Following the quick restore I deleted a few programs I didn't need and installed a couple. things work fine until I go to install Frontpage. It seems that when I updated to IE5.5 the problems began.
I cannot understand why even when re-installing windows it still comes up with the regsvr32 and tapisrv errors which seem to later cause rundll32 errors.
I am installing Win98 from CAB files on the c: drive. Could it possibly work if I do it from disk or wouldn't that matter.
I am out of ideas. Does anybody have any?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Why are you reinstalling windoze?
This, I'm afraid, is such a common problem that it should qualify as an epidemic psychosis. For reasons that are slightly esoteric, I find myself chuckling when I hear this..... As if the PC is a dirty piece of clothing that 'just needs a fresh reinstal'!
K, 'nuff ranting, what generates these errors is: when uninstalling I.E. 5.5 (the newest browser( which I DO NOT recommend!)), one is smart to be hooked up to the Winblows update site- this way, system files that are current can be swapped for .dll, .exe, and other files which mate with the older browser- idem est: I.E. 5.01
So, my advice to you is run SFC, checking for missing(deleted), and or corrupted files.
Get thee to the windose update site, update your browser back to 5.5, reboot, and pray!

Anyone who suggests keeping hooked up to the Windows Update site really does need a sense of humor. I guess I'm lacking because I avoid it like the plague. :-)

I have tried to re-install and also the fix option but it still comes up with the rundll32 error.
I re-installed windows only AFTER the IE5.5 caused these problems.
Any other ideas anybody?
