Was it working before, or is this a new installation?

Did you check the FAQ?

Are you using 1.3 or the newer 1.4 version?

it's a new installation, and yes I did check FAQ, but no win 95's only 98, would it be the same? The version I'm not sure about, it doesn't come up. After I clear the illegal op message, it shows ExceptionEAccessviolationin module spybotsd.EXEbei001F47DB

"but no win 95's only 98, "

??

The link covered a couple of issues specific to Win95

The version would have been shown at whatever site you'd downloaded from (and maybe in the setup file's name) - I was just wondering, since 1.3 works fine under 95, but I've yet to try the new one with that OS

Anyways, I'm not exactly sure what's causing the error - you might try updating the files mentioned in the link (HHCTRL.OCX & WS2_32.DLL) for a start.

You might try uninstallng and reinstalling Spybot.

Possibly this is an issue with 95 and version 1.4 (which is likely the one you have) - you could see if v1.3 works any better

I'm just thinking aloud (haven't checked) but wonder if you can still get updates for V1.3

Oh yeah, that's not a problem - although (as I recall) the updater doesn't work under Win95, and has to be done manually.

Not sure if this is an issue with v1.4 & 95 or not - it'd be helpful if we could hear back from cal as to whatever progress may have been made.

Maybe I'll give it a go on my other machine

That'd be great. Tools like Spybot (& Ad-aware) are nearly indispensible, users of Win95 shouldn't be left out. Ad-aware SE requires a workaround, it would be good to know if Spybot 1.4 does as well

There are stacks of illegal operation problems. Start a new post (select your OS top left) and give details, whether it is one specific program or whatever. That way we can deal with your particular problem only.

Note that the "signature" bit is just for a name (or whatever you want it to be) - like my DerekW

Yes indeed - repeating your message in the signature area is as good as shouting out:

"I've never actually posted in a forum before"

(plus it is seriously annoying)

Post your very own (detailed) message in the forum appropriate to your version of Windows
