Also check for spyware/ malware. Adaware 2007 & spybot S&D are good freeware.

If you can't get a connection, it won't matter how fast IE is.

As mountain says, what happens when you do an ipconfig? How are you connecting? DSL, Dial-up?

hi
i ran a program called avast and avg antivirus. i could not run adaware as i am running 98se on the bad machine. also unable to run spybot without internet connection. it requires updates before it will let you run. i also tried release/renew for connection problem, no help. iexplorer6 still takes 2-3 mins to open. it does however open normal in safe mode but unable to find page/server. i am writing this through laptop connected wireless through the belkin router that the broken desktop is hardwired through.

So, what does ipconfig show? What happened immediately before you lost your ability to connect?
