Compaq Deskpro 590 – 49 MB RAM Loads of disk space !
Win 95 b USB ver and patch.
Ie 3 will run but the main screen freezes and none of the pulldown menu’s work.
Ie 3 will reinstall but this doesn’t fix the problem.
Can’t uninstall IE 3 get the following error message.
When trying to Remove IE 3 in Add/Remove Programs the following error occurs.
“Uninstaller Error
An error occurred while trying to remove Internet Explorer 3.02.
Uninstallation has been cancelled.”

The following error message when trying to install IE 4.01 SP1 from Add/Remove programs.

“Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 Setup
The installation of a previous program was never completed. We recommend restarting your computer before running Internet Explorer SP1 Setup. Do you want to continue with setup?”

This error appears if trying install directly from the CD using either RUN or Win Explorer etc.

“Setup was unable to download all the required components for this installation. The Internet is likely busy.
Please try setup again later and select Smart Recovery to continue downloading.”

Note Smart Recovery does not kick in on the next install !

I have tried deleting all Internet Explorer files, Win Temp files, Temp Internet files, renaming win.ini
There is no Internet connection on this PC, no modem etc !!

Note. Other installs of software are fine including CAM running on USB PCI card etc ! and Antivirus.

Any help please as I’m about to drop it out the window !

John

Maybe I should just use a proper browser and get Netscape !

The solution is Windows 98. Hell of alot easier and not as dam delicate like 95. Win98 has IE 4.0 with it or if you were to get the 2nd edition, it has 5.0. and ignore the last reply, Internet busy? how the fu˘|< could that be. If you want Win98 i know where u can download it. Just send me an e-mail and i'll gladly tell you. da_sexecutioner@hotmail.com

Cheers
The other problem is that it's not my machine, and the guy is on holiday hence wanting to keep it as close to what it was prior to his departure !

Other problem is:
I can NOT get the SCSI CD ROM to work in DOS mode.
Why do I need to do this ?.
If I install 95 over the current install it doesn't fix the problem !

Why don't I upgrade to 98, I do have a copy but it refuses to upgrade with the version that I have, hence wanting to get the install working from DOS to complete a full clean install !

HELP...
