Comment:

When ever i restart windows one of the error messages with the red circle and white x comes up telling me that it:

" Cannot fine the file 'Iexplorer.exe' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available. "

Does anybody know how I can fix this?

Probably would be best to reload the internet explorer. If you don't have it you can download it from here:

I have it, im using it right now, but I still get the error when restarting windows.

Earlier today Norton Anti-virus said there was a virus in the iexloporer.exe file and i repaired it. Ever since the error has been coming up.

Read the error message again; does it say : "Cannot find the file iexplore.exe or one of it's components.."?
Start>Run>msconfig will show which programs start with windows, look under 'startup' tab, check for this entry: "default web browser"
If that exists on there, you may have a curious trojan "iexpiore.exe", which alters your system.ini and your win.ini files.
Repost - I'll explain how to rid yourself of this nasty little file.
Good luck, tm.

Some of the technicians in my former desktop group used to reinstall the Service Pack for user who were getting these types of error messages. It might be overkill for this problem but it might be worth considering.

Run MSCONFIG again, looking for an entry that runs iexpIorer.exe.

Unselect it and then do find files for it.

If you have a virus program installed, run it against this file. Regardless, ship it off to them for verification.

Might consider just upgrading IE if you can, it often replaces most of those files with more current versions. Just a thought. Good luck.

hi all! i just got the trojan today, it didnt come up with any error message for me, in other words its working onmy computer. I have a firewall that detected it (luckily) i did a search for it and found the file was located at c:\windows\system\iexpiore.exe. Just to fix up any doubts, the file IS iexpiore.exe. the writer of this trojan decided to call the file iexpIore.exe to trick the use into thinking it was Internet explorer, iexplore.exe. Just deleting the file though will fix it, but cause bugs to appear. This is because there are keys in the registry added once u have this virus/trojan (i dont really know which one). To get rid of these u can either manually look for them using regedit.exe(because there are various versions of this trojan that put different registry keys) or look for a website that has a fix for your particular version of iexpiore.exe.

Also, i thought id add, quite a lot of anti virus programs arent detecting this trojan because it is relatively new

I'm working on the virus now and will have an answer to exactly how to remove this file in a lil-bit. I've just about cracked down on all of it's extensions and entries to the registry.

Ok, here is how to get rid of it...
I must note that you must be of a certain computer knowledge to do this... So don't blame me for your careless clicking and you hiting your delete key too manny times!
You have to delete all of the following entries to get rid of all error messages and the program it self. The entries are as followed.

These are all of the entries that are made in the registry. (win98)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\Default Web Browser
Name=StubPath
Data="C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexpIore.exe ASC"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Name=Default Web Browser
Data="C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexpIore.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-
Name=Default Web Browser
Data="C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexpIore.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
Name=Default Web Browser
Data="C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexpIore.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices-
Name=Default Web Browser
Data="C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexpIore.exe

Makes entries after your device drivers like so.

device=
;Rem TShoot: noload=iexpIore.exe
noload=iexpIore.exe iexpIore.exe
;Rem TShoot: norun=iexpIore.exe
norun=iexpIore.exe iexpIore.exe
run=iexpIore.exe
load=iexpIore.exe

Makes an entry after explorer.exe in the System INI

shell=explorer.exe iexpIore.exe

After you do all of the above you can go into " C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM " and delete the b*tch. AKA " iexpiore.exe "

All thanks can be mailed to Jamer504@yahoo.com

Just trying to help ya'll out. Take care.

Do what JAN says. His advice even works on 98,98SE,ME,2000, and XP. I have tried it. Basically this is the true story. You never do have this file iexpIore.exe. It is a virtual database when you log onto the internet. But if you get the virus "Backdoor.Trojan", which causes this problem, I am sure you all have it, you must first quarantine the file and then delete it. After this has passed, make sure there a no signs left by deleting all appearances of this file in the system registery. Then one last thing is to go to MS Config(Start--->Run--->msconfig) There you must go to the start up tab and make sure that the iexpIore.exe boxes are NOT CHECKED. Also look for any other application in msconfig that refers to that file. THen you must restart your comp and you are finished. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful when you do this. If you delete the wrong files you may be screwed. And try not to go into win.ini or system ini... Try to get Norton Antivirus 2002. THis is the best and can help you if you need further assistance. AND REMEMBER.. The File is iexpiore.exe NOT iexplorer.exe. Okay good luck...

A friend

I found a simple way to fix this after I was tricked with it. This pertains to people who just caught it, i dont think it will work with people who have had it a long time.

Restart in DOS mode. At the C:\ type
c:\>scanreg
It will say your registry is fine, but select the "View these other Registry backups" or whatever it says.

Highlight one from either one earlier in the day , or from a while a go, and click RESTORE.

This will restore your registry to a previous good state.

I just went to the command prompt from inside Windows XP. From there, I went to "C:\windows\system32" and deleted the file. Windows would not let me delete iexpiore.exe from w/in the shell.
I then had to romove iexpiore from my startup(msconfig). After this, I ran a good registry program to clean up any mess in my registry.

I came across this problem today & I simply downloaded version 6 of internet explorer and it did the trick. I tried the 'run-msconfig-startup' thing and I couldn't even see an entry for iexplore.exe.
Funnily enough I had only just restored my system today and it seemed funny that I should have the iexplore.exe error. Still, I can sleep at night now.
