Might anwser your question :

iedll.exe
With MUCH thanks to Rick from "The MacKinzie Family" (who sent me a copy of iedll.exe for examination) and Galen (aka KGIII and GotRoot etc) who took pity on me, decompiled the file and told me what it does........

Its a BHO ("browser helper object"), affecting Internet Explorer, that tries to write to the registry "..looks like a fragmented version of SearchBar.."

The problem: error message when starting Windows - " C:\windows\IEDLL.EXE\ file appears to be corrupt. Reinstall the file and try again."

Search engine/option hijackings:

global-finder.com (in the registry as out.true-counter.com/.../?344012)

searchalot.com

coolwebsearch (appearing in the registry as approvedlinks.com/hp.htm)

The cleanup: Use Task Manager (ctrl, alt, del) to make sure iedll.exe is not running. If it is, shut it down. Rename iedll.exe to iedll.old.

Export then delete the following registry keys:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,Shellnext
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,Shellnext

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run [iedll] C:\WINDOWS\iedll.exe
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run [loader] C:\WINDOWS\LOADER.exe

NOTE: Loader.exe can be a legitimate Windows file. Do NOT delete or rename the file - just delete the entry above from the registry!!

Hi DrColt73. Sjoe! that is highly technical. I did a Ctrl+Alt+Del but IEDLL.exe is not there. So what do I do now?
I still get this LOADER.exe message!

Careful, kiddies. I too had this IEDLL error message. I applied the "cleanup" described above and sure enough, no more error messages regarding iedll.exe or loader.exe.

BUT, when I rebooted, neither my Outlook nor my Internet Explorer could work. Error messages for both saying, basically, "Don't even think about it."

I re-imported to the registry the values that, as per the description above, I had previously exported and deleted from the registry, then rebooted. Whew! Both Outlook and IE are working again.

Lesson learned: I'm not going to screw around with the registry again unless I'm 100% sure I know what I'm doing and why.

I had the problem: error message when starting Windows - " C:\windows\IEDLL.EXE\ file appears to be corrupt. Reinstall the file and try again." This occured after removing a Trojan Horse Dialer using AVG. I have removed the corrupted iedll.exe file to a floppy disk. Everything seems to work fine. DO I EVEN NEED THIS FILE? (This file doesn't even exist on my other computer which is also WIN 98)

All of you have described my problem exactly as I'm experiencing it. No IE6, no Outlook Express, No sound, Graphics gone! I'm thinking of making a clean installation all over again. could anyone tell me whether this is a good idea.

Secondly, I know one can revert back to settings of say, 3 days ago. how do I do that?

If you don't installed any programs in the last 5 days and you want go back to a previous setting of Win98 do the following:

First of all change the Startpage of IE, even if you see " about:blank" set it back to a blank page. Notice the two leeding spaces.

Restart your computer and press F8 to get the Windows Bootmenu.
Start in DOS-Prompt only
Change to your Windows Directory and enter
scanreg /restore
You will be prompted with a list aof the last 5 Windows settings.

If you feel sure to edit the registry and know what you are doing, you don't need to do the above.
After resetting the Startpage of your browser, start regedit.exe.
Search for the following strings:
http://%6f and http://out.true-counter
in everey found key enter a new value of a friendly page like http://www.yahoo.com/.
Then search for iedll and delete the found key in the RUN section.
After that restart your machine.

I hope I could help a few guys with that. My system don't bother me with that sh.t anymore.

Greetings
Dirk

Dirk,

Great idea : reinstall a previous windows version of the last 5 days with F8 + MS/DOS choice + asking for a scanreg/restore.
It worked perfectly (because I had "the chance" to deal this issue recently, means since this morning).
So simple and so easy!
Many thanks to you and to google from a french user.

I'm having the same problems mentioned above. I have tried all the solutions listed, and got rid of the error message. But now my Internet Explorer is not working. I've tried re-installing it, but still nothing.
I went back and reversed the changes I made, and now I get the iedll error message again on startup, but IE still doesn't work. Does anyone know how this bug works, and what I need to do to fix it?
THX

Same as everyone above, every time I start my computer I get the following error message: "C:\windows\IEDLL.EXE\ file appears to be corrupt. Reinstall the file and try again."

If I click on "OK" then I can work on the computer for a few minutes and then it completely freezes & I can't even use Ctrl-Alt-Delete

Is this a virus or what has happened and what do I do about it??! Help!! Please use layman's terms... I don't feel real comfortable messing with the registry, but I don't quite understand how to revert to a Win98 version from a few days ago. Also, if I do that, will I lose all the documents and emails from the past few days?

Hi,
having the idell.exe problem too, I found this page. Following up the solution of Dr.Colt the iedll problem was fixed, but I got another problem: the loader.exe-problem that I never had before. Can anybody tell me some ways to fix this problem?
There is no entry in the win.ini or somewhere else but in the registry and it comes up with every start. When closing the window the system runs with no problems.
Does anybody know what happens when deleting the registry entry?
Thanks

I to have received the iedll.exe error. I scanned thru the suggestions and decided the safest thing was to perform a search and delete the file. Did that and rebooted and now I do not get the error and my ie works fine. I am using ie6 win98 se

Iget the following error meg at start-up:

"LOADER caused an invalid page fault in
module LOADER.exe"

After Xing out of the error message the system seems to operate correctly.

Any suggestions on how to eliminate the error message from appearing at all will be greatly appreciated.

Also, any information regarding the purpose of "LOADER" and "LOADER.EXE" will, likewise be greatly appreciated.

Follow-up

I used an uninstaller program I have and uninstalled both LOADER.exe and Iedll.

There were no Registry entries to delete or revise and my IExplorer and OUtlook Express both work correctly. Apparently neither program is necessary for normal operations. (I also checked each file for any other programs that used them and there were none.

I also had the iedll.exe page fault error at start-up. I am running Windows Me.

I first tried to reinstall the operating system (waste of time). No luck.

I then read the information above. First I tried just deleting the iedll.exe file, but after being on line once or twice it came back each time.

Then I went into the registry to delete the files recommended by Dirk. (Run: regedit.exe) Don't forget to first export the current registry before changing anything so you can always re-import it and recover in case you delete the wrong things! I couldn't find the "http" references, but did delete the iedll.exe references. (Don't forget that "find" only finds the next occurrence and you have to keep repeating "find next" (F3) until all occurrences are located. However, STILL NO LUCK! The file managed to return.

Finally, I re-did the registry deletes and this time also un-installed and re-installed Internet Explorer. It's been two days now and no re-occurrences.

I had the loader.exe error only one time, so I haven't done anything for that problem. If it's tied to iedll.exe, hopefully, it will not come back on its own.

Also one side note. In Windows Me, you have to create and use the start-up disk for the registry restore. (Otherwise, same basic procedure as outlined by Dirk.)

Thanks to all for their help and input!

Just got this crap thing on my computer today (Windows Me)

First logged on in the morning and I get 2 messages

ldell has caused an error in
ldell will now close

and

Loader has caused an error in LOADER.exe
Loader will now close

However, before and after closing them I was completely unable to use my keyboard except for ctrlaltdelete

Shutdown, Started it up again, and instead I got a new message

The C:\WINDOWS\IEDLL.exe file appears to be corrupt
Reinstall and then try again

However getting this message, I was able to use the keyboard, and so closed it and thought nothing of it

Starting the computer back up tonight I get the same first two messages, and I cant use the keyboard at all (currently using a very old very slow one) and after restarting many times, the 3rd message has never appeared again.

----------------
A few questions;

Any ideas where this thing came from and what it is??

As with what Dave was talking about - how do I get into the registry to delete this stuff? As the problem I'm having is that my keyboard is unresponsive, will I need it to do any of the steps? And how do I create the necessary start up disk?

Thanks!

Hi altogether,

I'm a WINDOWS XP user (from Germany) and I've got the same problems with IEDLL.exe and LOADER.exe since some days.

Despite the lively discussion here and despite the many different proposed solutions I miss a clear and most of all an easy solution for the problem (without Registry-modification etc.) These mysterious files really make me desperate...

For that reason I posted my very own call for help at my personal weblog; in addition to this you'll find there a link list with further interesting and helping information about the iedll.exe-problem in the www. Also you have the opportunity to discuss and exchange experiences with other affected PC and internet users.

Just check into:

The page is in English, so feel welcome.

Hope to meet you there, let's make solutions,
Bye W.M.

I've had the iedll.exe problem several times recently - does anyone know which webpages it originates from ?
I'm surprised Norton Anti-virus doesn't catch it yet - it catches the similar JSexception browser hi-jack
I use NAV2000, which isn't now supported with email tech support - has anyone with a newer version of NAV tried emailing them ?
I can get rid of iedll by following the steps above, but can't stop it returning

To the person with the slow keyboard response - I'd recommend downloading Adaware 6 (free - do a google search, or try ZDnet site) & running it - I had a similar problem & my PC was clogged with spyware

Reformatting & reloading Win doesn't help if iedll returns

I spend last weekend surfing the WEB without restarting my computer. I come home yesterday and turned on my computer (Windows 98) I saw the message at startup. I don't remember exactly, but it was like I should reinstall *.dll (i do not remember the name but it wasn't iedll.exe or loader.exe). I've clicked OK and then I've clicked Start->Run-> msconfig to see what applications run my startup. And I saw checkboxes turned on at a IEDLL.exe and LOADER.exe. But it's a new items in my startup. There wasn't them before. I turned the checkboxes off and reboot the computer. It was ok at the first sight. Then i checked this two files by antivirus program (AVP) and it said that IEDLL.exe is trojan and should be deleted.
What should I do in this situation? Can anybody help me?
Thanks and sorry for my not very good english.
