Comment:

while surfing the net, if there is a link I get this error: EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module RPCRT4.DLL at 0167:7fbd0894.
The other problem is when I click a link to open a new window, the inside of the new window turns transparent kind of, and it never loads! The top show the browser (but with no address) and the bottom is ok.
This also happens when trying to open a link from Outlook Express.
I have emptied cache, temporary internet files, history etc. Checked default browser. Using start/run I have run
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
Has anyone any idea how to solve this problem.
Many thanks

Just posted the following on the old post. Give it a whirl. There is something else that I'm checking out, but try this first.

The file Rpcrt4.dll may be corrupted or damaged.
If you have the W98SE CD:

1)Go to Start>Run, key in SFC (System File Checker), and select: Extract one file from installation disk. Browse to the Win98_40.cab and Extract Rpcrt4.dll from there. (To use System File Checker, close down any programs you have running and disable your Virus Scanner to be on the safe side.)

Or

2) Locate Rpcrt4.dll (Should be in: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM), right click and rename it Rpcrt4.old

Reinstall Internet Explorer using the Add/Remove programs, double left click on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools, Select Add a Component, and place a checkmark in Internet Explorer 6 web browser. Follow the wizard from there.

Post back.

This might turn out to be a spyware issue. Suggest you run Ad-Aware to ferret out the problem.

Is any of these: WebHancer, Gator, Web 3000 Network listed in the Add/Remove Programs of Control Panel?
from ADD/REMOVE in control panel

FZWG thanks for your suggestion. The problem seems to exist with the Rpcrt4.dll file in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM as it was created on the date when the problem occurred. There is another file rpcrt4.dll (NOT with capital R) in C:\WINDOWSC\SYSTEM\dcom95\oldole.
With regards to the Rpcrt4.dll file in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM we just cannot change it. We have tried renaming it; moving it, also tried deleting it; but it will not allow us. We even tried to change/delete it in Safe Mode.
Have you any further suggestions PLEASE

Couple of suggestions:

Try correcting the RPCRT4.DLL error by uninstalling and reinstalling Dial-Up Networking:

-From the Start menu, click Settings, and choose Control Panel
-Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon
-Click on the Windows Setup tab
-Uncheck the box next to Communications, and click OK
-Insert the Windows98 CD into the computer's CD-ROM drive. Click the OK button.

Note: Do not restart the computer at this point, even if the computer prompts you to.

-From the Start menu, click Settings, and choose Control Panel
-Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon
-Click on the Windows Setup tab.
-Check the box next to Communications.
-Click the OK button.
-When the Dial Up Networking Setup prompt informs that the system is reconfigured, etc, click OK.
-Restart the Computer.

If no joy, here is another angle: have seen where installing Microsoft DCOM98 for Windows 98 has fixed the problem:

Also read this: (Go to the DCOM info area)

Hope one of these hits the target for you.

FYI, and for what it is worth: also running W98SE.

ONLY have: Rpcrt4.dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
