Is it possible to use the windows XP CD to load IE6 onto a windows 98 installation? If so where is it located on the CD?

Unlikely that the Windows XP version of IE 6 will work with Windows 98, in fact I am sure it wont as at least on DLL, wininet.DLL is different in each version.
You can download a Windows 98 version from Microsoft or just upgrade your present version via Windows Update.
