Ever since I installed the IE6 upgrade from 5.5 I'm getting explorer.exe crashes regularly. Always on boot up and I have to click 'close' twice to exit the error message, and sometimes while surfing. If while surfing, I lose most or all of the icons in my system tray. If I hit 'control alt delete' and bring up the close program box, explorer is shown as running in the background still. I also on occasion get registry errors on startup. Could there be more instances than one of explorer.exe running at once? Could that be the problem? HELP! It's driving me nuts. I have a Pentium II 700 mhz proc running Win98 with 256MB RAM.

I had similiar problems, got fed up with it and got a new web browser instead, opera 6.1, worth a try i haven't had any blue screens or error messages, freezes since.

You can either fix Internet Explorer by going to the control panel,add/remove software.select IE 6 and select uninstall.you will be present with the option to remove, fix or add/remove components
or just fall back to 5.5 by following the same procedure.
sfc can also be run (on win98)in the start/run,this will check system files (including explorer.exe).but try to fix IE6 first, since the problems started there.
Cheers!

I have Opera also and it is not the greatest anymore than IE. Now rather than switch browsers in midstream, lets just try to fix this one or at least solve your immediate problem. You did not state your OS so I will assume 98. The first thing I would do is a scan disk and check the auto repair and let it do its thing. Then I would go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, system information and click on tools, and then click on IE repair tool. Let it repair and then reboot. If this did not work, I would either go to the start, settings, control panel add/remove, and click on IE6 which will give you the option to repair or go back to prior edition, and then go back to IE5. You could also redownload IE6. Sometimes the download can be poor based upon speed, and line connectivity, and if one file is a little messed up than the whole thing is messed up. There is also a program to completely delete IE and start from Scratch but I won't post for now hoping you can get it repaired.

IE 6 & OE 6 is very unstable,I would go into add & remove programs and restore your old version back. Then I would find another browser, Like OPERA 6 or netscape 6.2.1.

I too use IE6...Windows ME...Outlook 6 is the worst...hangs up everytime I attempt to load it...System will not restore previous version...Would be interested in completely removing IE from system and reinstalling 5.5 and Outlook 5...If you would...please send me location of program to do this...Thanks, JohnT...

When I had IE 6 and OE 6 it was always crashing. So I restored it back to they way it was. Now This might take a couple of times to do this.It wouldn't work the first time, but did the second time.I would try this first. If this doesn't work there is a program you can download to remove all of IEs
presence. I will get back to you on this, for I will have to go and look it up.
theblknight.
