Subject: IE6 -> desktop icons strangeness
Comment:

Hello. I just installed IE6 on a win98se PC and now when I select "Auto Arrange" icons on my desktop, they snap into strange inconsistant places i.e. blank spaces where icons should be. I've already tried rebuilding my icon cache and rebooting, etc. Any suggestions? I'd rather not uninstall IE6...

Thanks

Can you drag the icons and place them where you want them on the desk top?

Deselect 'Auto Arrange'. Drag and drop the icons where you want them. Right click a blank area on the desktop and click 'Line up Icons'. Then get a program that will lock, save and allow you to restore your desktop. For one such (free) program, click on the 'homepage' icon above.

No, icons snap back when I try placing them correctly (I have auto arrange selected). Anyone else ever had this problem? I am 100% sure it has to do with IE6...

I've seen it occur when the Vertical Icon Spacing is set to low. Check your Display Settings, on the Appearance tab under the Item box. The value should be greater than 43.
