I offer this suggestion: Look and make sure that the correct block is checked, i.e., "Shut Down", (w/o the quotes of course). HTH :)

Assuming you are chicking the right shutdown box, try installing SP-2.

Suggest you upgrade to IE5.0. IE4.0 gives everyone problems. However, since I now have Win98 & IE5.*, I go into Control Panel and under Scheduled Tasks I set up ScanDisk to run whenever I tell it to or just run it under Programs when I feel the need. I just can't remember where I turned off the automatic run of ScanDisk at Startup under Win95. Have you checked Restart and not ShutDown?

I have had some success with the shutdown problem at my place of work. One, there is a whitepaper you can get from Microsoft with a procedure to troubleshoot the shutdown problem. Problem is almost anything can cause it. What we have found is if you remove the exit .wav file and then re-install it in the sounds section of Control Panel, it seems to correct it.
We have also found that if you are on a networked system, logging off first seems to help at times. Seems windows shuts down the network before drives and programs that are running from the network are shut down, this causes the system to hang.
