Subject: ie v6.0 - address bar memoryOS: win 98seCPU/Ram: intle celeron - 256k RAM |
Comment: i use ie v6.0 and like to keep all my history and "autocomplete" history empty. guess i am just paranoid - and very picky too. anyway, there is a web address that i can't seem to delete from my machine. if i go to the address bar and type "www." and then any letter no addresses pop up (as i like it) except for the letter "l" which continues to display some unknown link to a site which is nothing but a black screen with a copyright symbol at the bottom. no matter what i try it does not seem to want to go away. i have cleared my history, cookies, autocomplete content, dumped my temp folder, and dumped my temp internet files folder. we have also run "adaware", but we just can't get rid of the annoying little address. anybody know how to completely rid my address bar of this little problem. thanks

Reply: (edit)ok - i have been fiddling around with this and have a little more info. the unwanted retained address is the following: http://www.liveonthenet.com/checkin-all.cgi?bg=000000+tx=FFFFFF+menu=checkmain+path=/events/aaronscherz/show03 i am now able to see the whole page, and it is some kind of internet radio site. anybody know how to get this out of my address bar memory so it does not keep popping up? anybody else have a similar problem with this or any other site? this is very annoying - i like to keep my machine as clean as possible clunger

Reply: (edit)I'm running W2K but the tools menu is similar. when you clear history did you also hit APPLY? Also you could turn that feature off In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options. Click the Content tab. Under Personal information, click AutoComplete. Select the check boxes for the AutoComplete options you want to use. or something like that.

Reply: (edit)thanks for the reply rayman unfortunately, i have tried all of the suggestions you made, and none of them have worked. this address seems to have somehow saved itself in an area or a way that it can't be removed via the usual methods. does anyone know where exactly on the hd the memory for the address bar in ie is stored. maybe if i could find it i could just manually delete it. any help appreciated clunger
