This one has me baffled....
I am running Explorer 5.5w/service pack 2 and have had zero problems until yesterday. Now, every time I attempt to open a link it opens minimized - completely. Every time I attempt an "Open New Window" - minimized completely. It only opens maximized when I first open IE or if the site I am visiting opens a link in the same window. Any other incidence of Explorer is minimized.
FYI - I know the "properties" select "run" and select "maximized" -- that does nothing.
I have tried stretching the window to a maximized state and closing with the "X" hoping it would "save" the setting -- THAT does nothing.
So, I am STUMPED! Any good ideas? (Besides dumping Explorer for Opera which I am close to doing anyway? I have used the trial of the new 6.0 and am blown away at what all you can do. But, old habits die hard.}

try opening a single windows. hold down the control key and hit the X to close it.
If that doesnt work try opening a single window then rightclick any link-open in new windows .close the first window you opened and maximize the mimized window you just opened. hold down the control key while you hit the X.

Still won't work. Thank you George for the attempt. I have heard there is a reg tweak for this, does anyone know of that?
Thanks!

Kitty,
Thanks anyway, but that's one I said I had already tried.
I DID fix this problem. With the help of the Microsoft Knowledgebase, here is the registry fix. I hesitate to post reg fixes here, but this one is just too easy:
To resolve this issue, use Registry Editor to remove the following Internet Explorer registry values, and then restart your computer:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\oldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects
After reboot, everything was fine.
