I use IE 6, and Firefox - Internet Explorer won't load images correctly. Firefox loads them just fine. When loading with IE, they appear distorted, with lines going through them. I can't figure out whats wrong yet. Any advice would be helpful :) Thanks in advance!

It might not help but it is always best to try IE Repair for starters. In Control Panel/Add-Remove double click the "Microsoft IE & Tools" entry and you should see the option.

Didn't work. It still won't load certain jpegs correctly. Any ideas? Or could it just be an IE6 bug?

This link looks promising:

MS IMAGE SIZING BUG

It might be easier to look at the file mshtml.dll in Properties and check the version number. Mine is 6.2800.1528 (compared to 6.2800.1261 in the MS Hotfix).

If your file version number is less than 6.2800.1261 maybe it's just that you are not sufficiently up to date with IE Cumulative Updates. It sounds as if later IE Updates fix the problem given in the link, and mine are fine.

My IE went wrong years ago (freeserve ie update bundled with my dialler destroyed the registry), but as it is rubbish I dont care, Firefox is better all round. I've only found a few interactive sites that dont support it (yet), like banks.
I found it impossible to fix IE beyond a certain point, because 98se wont let you uninstall it completely. The only way was to format c and start again.
So I use firefox.
Why do you need ie?

The poster obviously has reasons to run IE, otherwise (with Firefox also on board) he wouldn't be asking the question.

Just because you happened to find IE unfixable is no reason why the rest of the world should dump it. Perhaps you should have tried harder. I have used IE since W95 came out and have had very little trouble with it.

My current W98SE machine has had IE versions on it ever since it was last formatted in Nov 1999. I have updated IE versions over the years and the latest version works just fine.

I am not trying to suggest that IE is a better browser but I don't believe it is the big bad wolf that so many folk suggest. As regards the interlinking with Windows then you still have that even when Firefox has been added, unless you take fairly drastic measures.

Freeserve was renowned for filling up your machine with unremoveable stuff, so perhaps that's more to the point. It is the reason I always avoided Freeserve.

Nope. I can't update it to that version.
Version being run right now, is 6.0.2800.1106 I've already been to the windows update center, and installed all of the critical updates. I also installed (Reinstalled more like) Shockwave, and flash.

That file version seems odd because mine is later and I'm using IE6.1

I'm happy to send you my file if you wish (you can always save yours somewhere as a fallback).

Let me know.

Ok!
Just follow instructions:
1: open IE
2: click 'Tools'
3: click 'Internet Options'
4: click 'Advanced' tab
5: scroll down to Multimedia section and disable Automatic Image resize!

Does that help?

The problem is the fact that you installed all critical updates! :)

That's interesting. I have all critical updates and Automatic Image resize is checked, yet images load just fine. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones.

i think it may be an ie bug. Click on the link in step 3 on this page:
http://www.coolhotlinks.com/fix.html

Then visit the page that won't load correctly. If this solves it, follow the steps on that page.

Hope this helps.

I feel the same about #18. Who knows, it may help, but I'm not using MS Default page yet I can get to the link posted.

If it's bug why does it only select some computers?

I am using a later mshtml.dll and my offer to send the file remains open.

For others:
Sent mshtml.dll (v6.00.2800.1528). It didn't help!

Might be worth reposting this as it's now gone way off the first page and not many new folk will spot it.
