Comment: ok heres my problem... when i install IE 6 everything went fine no problems.. but when i rebooted everything went very very bad... a whole lot of "DllRegisterServer" problems.. not registering the dlls and all that for example like comctl32.dll, iepeers.dll, mshtml.dll and many many more... anyway i would click ok and continue after going thru all that my system was very unstable everything was crashing with illegal operations to comctl32.dll, mshtml.dll, oleuat32.dll (i think i spell that right) and many others sometimes, i guess since IE updates your OS and all that (which i hate very much) if it goes wrong your OS is basically garbage... anyway after all that i had to reinstall win 98 se to somewhat recover. but i have to install IE 6 and i just wanna know what the problems is. oh and by the way i did try the repair tool before i reinstalled the os and still got the dll problems stated earlier in the message. Sorry for the length of this but any help would be greatly appreicated :)

Reply: (edit)If you had a previously problem- free system that developed multiple error messages you described on reboot after what you thought a flawless IE6.0 Install, then I would think your IE6.0 Internet download or IE6 CD was corrupt. If you had problems before and you hoped IE6.0 would 'cure' it, then, even with an uncorrupted IE 6 Internet download or CD you could develop more problem with the new software. If the latter is the situation, then you need to either perform software troubleshoots to resolve all the problems or Reformat and perform a clean Reinstall of Windows 98SE before doing the IE6 Sp1 upgrade. If your system was running OK until the current mishap, make sure the system runs stable for a few days, then back up the Registry [Just in case another problem comes with new IE6 install in which case you can restore the Registry you backed up rather than Win98SE Reinstall]and then try IE6 SP1 Installation.

Reply: (edit)I think you are making a wise and proper decision by choosing Reformat & Clean Reinstall as the next step. Most important think to remember before you embark on this step is to keep ready in Dikskettes or Discs Win98SE drivers for all your Devices especially the Video card, Sound Card, Network Interface Card, Modem [and /or keep a print out of your current Device Manager] and other devices like Printer, Scanner, Camera . I also recommend keeping print out of the DUN settings, Networking, Email/Newsgroup settings, and backup of Favorites,Address Books important Messages and copies of Registration /Passwords etc, for the new beginning to be less painful.

Reply: (edit)I see you tried the repair option of IE 6 but did you try the "restore the previous Windows configuration" option? Get it up and running then try reinstall of IE6. Just a thought before going though the pain of a total system installation.

Reply: (edit)IE6 will work perfectly in most Window 9x environment without any problems if properly installed with a an uncorrupt file. If there is a previous problem with your system, unrelated to its browser, and if you try to upgrade your browser before solving the prior software issues, IE6 install can be difficult or bring on additional troubles. If there are too many issues not amenable to simple troubleshoots and the hard drive is riddled with corrupt files, the best course of action will be to start all over again with a Reformat & Clean Reinstall.
