IE 5.5 freezes up

I'm having a problem with IE 5.5 freezing up. As I am "surfing" the web, occasionally my video goes into this strange test pattern with flashing squares of colors. When I hit return, IE closes and usually my desktop will reappear. At other times, the entire screen just freezes and I have to Cntl-Alt-Del to cancel the unresponsive program and start again. Any suggestions?
Go to Start => Programs => Accessories => System Tools = System Information. Under "Tools" you will find System File Checker and Version Conflict Manager. Run both these programs. You probably have a corrupted file or perhaps have reverted to an older version of a file.

To Help Me and Ron, Good idea to run scan disk, but there is some trouble regarding IE5.5 and (SFC) ran into this one myself. Microsoft has trouble papers regarding same, you may get a message from SFC that you have a missing or corrupted file which is not the case. Don't use SFC stay with scan disk to try and repair or go to system tools IE repair and see if you get a repair problem. Conflict manager is also a good idea. I will post SFC article once I dig it up.
