IE 5.0 SHDOCLC.DLL/DNS ERROR

I HAVE AOL AND EARTHLINK ON MY COMPUTER. I HAVE WINDOWS 98 AND INTERNET EXPLORER 5.0. I CAN CONNECT TO THE INTERNET, BUT I CANNOT ACCESS ANY WEB PAGES. THE ERRORS READ PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED OR ACTION CANCELLED. THE ERRORS ALSO SHOW EITHER SHDOCLC.DLL ERROR OR DNS ERROR. I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING MICROSOFT SITE HAS SAID AS WELL AS BEEN ON THE PHONE WITH EARTHLINK FOR TWO HOURS. I TRIED UNINSTALLING IE 5.0 AS WELL AS EARTHLINK AND REINSTALLED BOTH. I HAVE TRIED THE IE 5.0 FIX IN THE ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM PART OF THE CONTROL PANEL ON MY PANEL. THERE IS NOTHING THAT WORKS. SHORT OF REINSTALLING WINDOWS 98, I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP WHATSOEVER. I AM TOTALLY SPENT ON FINDING WHAT HAPPENED. HELP!!!!!
