IE 5 won't save password

Comment:
I downloaded Internet Explorer 5 and now I have to type in the password everytime I want to connect. The "save password" and "connect automatically" buttons are shaded and do not let me check them. I can find nothing under connection in dial up networking. Any suggestions?

Go to network properties, if Client for Microsoft networks is not installed, sdd it, then set it as primary logon. Restart computer when prompted, name/password box comes up when windows restarts. Enter name, but no password. IE5 will now save your password. Al

Als answer might work but for a strange reason, ie 2 wrongs making a right. i suspect you have got your internet connection set to "log onto network" under the server types tab. this will attempt to connect to the internet using the id and password used to log onto the pc itself. this is unlikely to be the same as your id/ password for your isp. therefore it either fails , or responds as yours does. go into control panel, then internet options, then connection and click on settings. then on properties, then server types . click once on the question mark at the top right-hand corner and then once on the words 'log onto network' and the help dialogue will appear to explain. if you remove the tick for that option then you can use whatever means you like to log onto your pc, eg windows family logon, no password, the escape key, whatever, and it won't bring that message up, and you won't need to install client for ms networks either.

Mike, There is no check in the "log onto network" box. The only things checked are "enable software compression" in options and TCP/IP below. Any other ideas?
