Comment: I am trying to Identify the on-board video card. I am currently stuck with 16 colors. The computer is unidentifiable as well. The only thing it says on the tower is the win98se sticker says Logisys - Goldstar I installed a new crystal sound card so I have sound now but the new video card I bought (diamond stealth 64 pci) freezes the computer after a restart. I must have uninstalled it and reinstalled it a hundered times and every time it gets to the desktop it freezes on the first thing I click. If I knew what kind of on-board video it has I could easily find a driver for it. To the best of my knowledge here is all I know about this comp. Motherboard says: Micro Star N1996 but it also says: ms 6178 ----this is the actual board model. It has a on-board soundmax card which I have uninstalled and disabled. It has a 700 series celeron processor. It has 128 m of ram. How do I find out what on-board video card it has? Why does the diamond stealth card freeze the computer after startup? It is compatable with windows 98se Someone help please, Tony

Reply: (edit)You may find user's manual filesMS-6178. This MicroStar Mainboard has Intel 810 GMCH [Graphics and Memory Controller Hub]chipset for the Onboard Video. Hope this helps in your troubleshoot. You may probably need to enter the BIOS (AWARD) by pressing Del key during Startup and disable the onboard Video for the installed Videocard to override it.

Reply: (edit)You're welcome. I'm glad it worked for you. The freezing when you use the diamond card is probably due to the drivers. You may want to go to their site to see if they have any newer drivers. You'd then need to uninstall the intel video drivers and set up the video adapter as one of the standard PCI video adapters. Then run the installation program for the diamond card. Sometimes you can reserve an IRQ in cmos for the vga adapter. You may want to check that also. If, after all this, it still freezes you may need to settle for the onboard video.
