I can set my icons where I want them and they stay there for a week or so even after re-boots and power downs. All of a sudden sometimes after a re-boot they will re-arrange only the right hand side and bottom icons. I have 4 rows of icons accross the screen and 7 rows down the screen. the 7th row on the bottom gets put on the 4th row on the right hand side. Anyone know what would cause this or how to go about fixing it? It is win98.4.10.1998 and other than this everything works great.

Does this happen after you have changed resolution as changing the resolution also changes the screen size. When the screen is so large that the bottom row will no longer fit it will automatically place it on the right. Changing from 800x600 to 600x480 will do that. You will notice it most when changing back to 800x600.

G'day Mush, look for and download a neat [I refuse to use that stupid outdated term 'cool'] little program called IconSaver, this can save the position of your desktop icons in any resolution and restore them to their postions in the 'blink of an eye' when this happens. It records the desktop icons positions in the Registry for various resolutions, 640x400,800x600,1024x768 etc, and if you change your resolution it can change the positions to suit once you have set them for each resolution.
It's co.. er I mean neat.

hey, thanks everybody. It is just happening after turning on the computer or sometimes after re-booting. I don't want auto arrange because I kinda like to group my icons in order like for multimedia, internet, and so on. I'm not changing the resolution. I leave it in 800x600 true colors. I will give the icon saver a try. Thanks again!
