Icons changing automatically

I have problem with my win 98.The
Icons of files keep on changing
automatically.Like html file has
recyle bin icon,a notepad file has
database icon & so on mess.But files
open fine.I have scanned with norton
antivirus but no viruses detected.
What could be the problem.
Pls reply soon I would be grateful to you.

Tweakui has a 'repair' facility to fix icons. Worth a try.

Delete the ShellIconCache file in the Windows folder, and let Windows re-create it at next boot. This should sort it out.
