Recently I tested a DOS program, it did an install. I didnt care for the software and attempted to just delete it off the system. It created an icon "file folder type" and is named "_". I cannot delete this icon off my desktop, neither will it allow me to empty my recycle bin. I keep getting an error message :Cannot delete _:Cannot find the specified file make sure you specify the correct path and filename.
This sucks, I can't find this stupid 1 meg file even in DOS but Windows keeps reporting it. Please help. Thanks! Steve

What do you mean or say the name was?
Never mind, try to do this:-
1)Open my computer
2)On the top of the menu bar, click view
3)Next, under the view bar select folder
options.
4)On the folder options, click the view tab.
5)Under hidden files, select show all files.
6)Click okNow, on your desktop, do you see any hidden files? If you do, delete it too.
If this doesn't work..click start, run and type in command. The will bring you to ms-dos command current directory c:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP>
Next type in del and the name of that undeletable icon and hit enter. Well, tried my best pal. Sorry if this doestn't work.
Last but not least, just try to shut down your computer on switch it on after 30 seconds and power on your computer back again.

Tell you what. Select shutdown on the start menu. Select restart in ms-dos mode. Now type in cd windows and hit enter. Next type in cd desktop and hit enter. The type in dir to see what icons on your desktop. And there you are, find the icon on the dir which you don't want.

Single click the file, right click then select Rename. Call it 'MUPPET' then
Now delete MUPPET, not getting confused with yourself of course!!

Steve,
Sometimes when a file is corrupted, it can't be deleted. If this is the case, running scandisk may get rid of it.
