I got an old IBM Thinkpad 600e that I borrowed from a friend of mine. The only problem was it had a bunch or corrupt DOS files.
I wiped the Primary DOS, made a new one and now that the hard drive is wiped nothing shows up. I don't have an A drive so I can't install from there.
I want to install Windows 98 on the laptop but it's not responding to the CD drive. Nothing comes up at all just a blank page. Can anyone help me with this?

First, we need to know EXACTLY what Winhozed 98 CD you have. the only version that I know of that will boot is a so called "OEM" version, says something like "to be supplied only with a new PC" on the front
Next, you need to get into the bios, and check the boot order. To do that,
Start with the machine OFF
Press AND HOLD the "F1" key
WHILE STILL HOLDING the "F1",
turn on the machine and
CONTINUE to hold "F1"
Thes will get into the bios, where you can change the start up order
These do have an available floppy drive, which either fits into an external bay, or will swap for the CDROM into the CDROM bay, known as "Ultraslimbay" for those models.

I suppose wioth floppy, it must have been wiped with a boot CD. I would use that CD to partition, format and sys the HD. Then put in the 98 CD and copy the win98 dir to HD.
As 'Name' says, not all winders CDs are created equal.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2

"I wiped the Primary DOS, made a new one and now that the hard drive is wiped nothing shows up." Yes. Normal behavior.
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.
