Comment: i tried reinstallng win98 on my nephews' thinkpad but i always get this error "a fatal exception 0E has occured at 0028:C00005257 in VXD VMM(01) + 00004257". does anyone know what this means?

Reply: (edit)Are you attempting an 'over-the-top' installation. If so try renaming the vmm32.vxd file. From a dos prompt type: ren c:\windows\system\vmm32.vxd vmm32.old and enter. Then try running the installation.

Reply: (edit)i did an over the top install but it crashed so i formatted the drive and installed clean. i still get the crash. i went to the bios and ran the hardware test and got this result systemboard memory dev 001 dev 002 err 91 err 21 fru 3610 fru 0020

Reply: (edit)I did a google search on those and couldn't find anything definite. I'd suspect bad RAM or maybe bad cache memory. You may need to contact IBM.

Reply: (edit)hi all, just want to share about the above error message on Thinkpad 600E because i know there are lot of people out there who have this particular problem. i found out that the problem is related to battery pack. i fixed mine by adjusting the battery lock and put the battery pack properly into its place. if you still get the error i advise you to discharge-recharge battery pack or replace it.
