Comment:

I am trying to get my old laptop running again with windows 95b (what it came with from the factory) and I'm having problems with the pcmcia cardbus. I ahve loaded the Supplemental Files from IBM's website for the updated drivers and it worked till I rebooted the machine, now there is an yellow ! on the two pcmcia devices in the device manager. This machine has two (2)Texas Instruments PCI-1250 CardBus Controller. IBM uses SystemSoft Cardworks to manage the pcmcia cards. But when I try to use it there is an error message that sayssspccrdx.vxd is not loaded. Now I ahve already tryed what other have said on other posts about this problem about editing the config.sys and only haveing the 4 lines and i ahve tryed deleting all the files that have ss*.* in my system temp folder and reinstalling..... None of that ahve worked. Now there has to be a way to get this to work, cause it did from the factory. Going to windows 98 is not an option, and shouldn't be an option since this worked fine with 95 new. Any help would be thankful... Thanks.
Jim

For starters, just where did you get the files you downloaded, and please don't tell me "IBM."

What I mean is, did you get these on the SPECIFIC page for your machine?

Oh, and these devices are reading in the drvice manager under properties for them as: The device has been disabled in the hardware. In order to use this device, you must re-enable the hardware. See you hardware documentation for details. (Code 29) There is nothing in the BIOS for this except to boot from pc cards, and the thinkpad config. program is in and running and these card slots are enabled in there. I ahve disabled and restarted and re-enabled them and restart with nothing different.

thanks.

I'm sure no expert on this problem, and my (long since dead) 380XD never had this problem with Winhoed98, but here's a few links you might look around for

"original configuration files" and

"default configuration files"

Here's a good read, maybe:

Thanks for you help, I ahve checked that out, everything matches... I called ibm tech support and after trying to understand him and explain to him I'm using 95b not 98 he directed me to a file do download.. But I have already downloaded it a few years ago and burned it to a driver cd i made for this machine, but I'll download it again and see what happens.... this will take a little while as I'm stuck with a 21.6K connection cause I'm in the middle of nowhere. I'll let you know if this works or not, thanks.

I have reinstalled the file he told me to use, it was the SystemSoft Cardworks file i already had, still nothing. I'm thinking about putting in my Windows NT4 cd, and seeing if it will work. I don't need the usb port on the back, just the card slots for my wireless card... If you have any other ideas???... If not, thanks for your help.

No I don't. I'm sure no expert on that stuff, but if the machine works properly, that is, has no hardware problems, I've had really good luck with whatever is on IBM's site.

My only other thought is some problme with whatever card(s) you are trying to use?

I'm at the end on this for you, sorry.

You might peddle over to here:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/index.php

and ask your question there

Also, if you haven't you might go search the "archives" of the Thinkpad mailing list, although last time I tried to do that, the most current archives seemed to be filled with SPAM.
