The Spaces virus uses the same method as CIH to infect VxD files on computers that have Windows 95 and 98 loaded. It contains a date-triggered, destructive payload. There are currently several known variants, including Spaces.1633 and Spaces.1445.
When an infected file is run, the virus checks to see if it has already been loaded into memory. If not, the virus will load itself into a reserved portion of memory. During installation, Spaces will make itself an ‘installable file system’ hook so that it is able to detect when files are opened or run. If the file being opened is an executable (.EXE) file the virus will infect it before allowing it to be run.
Payload: When an infected file is run, Spaces checks the date.On the first of June Spaces will deliberately corrupt the boot sector of C: drive. This means that the infected PC will not be able to boot properly

Do you know anyone else with an antivirus product from which you can create a bootable diskette (write-protected, of course) or cd-rom and use it to clean the hard drive in your machine?
Panda Active Scan cleans all infected files except IExplorer.exe and Explorer.exe because they are in use when navigating through the system or connecting to the internet.
It can be found on this website:
