Win 98SE
Hello guys. I have a problem and was hoping you could help. I installed a
Gravis digital joystick a while ago, and it works fine. Since it was awkward
driving cars with it, I just installed a Microsoft steering wheel into the
USB port. The joystick was in a pin plug. The wheel works only if it is set
to controller id 1. The stick is now "unknown". I reinstalled both in
different orders, but no change.I found if I unplug the wheel, then go to the control panel and remove the
stick and re-add, the stick will work. (the wheel is now missing). If I
plug the wheel in, both will now work! The games only see the one set to
controller id 1, even if they have a menu allowing you to pick the
controller. It is a lot of work to change the controller id every time I want
to switch games. I thought I solved the problem until I rebooted, and the
stick went away! is there any way to make it permanent, or would I have to
buy a USB type joystick? Would that work anyway?
Any ideas, Thanks

Uninstall all of the drivers for the controller devices.
And the joystick port
Then install Direct X 8, which runs the control panel applet.
Re-install them in the order you want
Make sure you choose the correct port driver in the ID settings
