Subject: I need 2 files !! |
Comment: I hope someone can help me with this. I have Windows 98 and was recently hit with that new Trojan Virus aka MINE.exe....it came with an attachment from someone that I thought I knew, but it wasn't that person .....the Subject was "HEY YOU"....what it did to my computer was nothing short of ugly. My antivirus program cleaned the files that were effected....but did not restore them. Now I have two files that I apparently need that are called "Uninstallms.exe" and "MSDOS98.exe". Whenever I bootup I get all kinds of illegal page faults that are associated with stack faults and my WSock32.dll. I've seen it for my Explorer....Sqstart....msndc.....ddpc?....I can't remember the last one, but now I can't even get on the internet at all except for AOL. If someone knows where I may find copies of these files I sure would appreciate it. Thanks !!

Reply: (edit)Sounds like you need more than 2 files! My advice would be to format your machine and reinstall win98, that virus can be deeper rooted than some A/V programs can get. You wont get windows operating at the same level as before unless you reinstall. Bad luck getting that Virus! Email if you want

Reply: (edit)most trojans do not infect files, but replace them. Therefore, virus checkers cannot disinfect the files, just remove them which is why you have this problem. Just thought you could do with this information.

Reply: (edit)you DO not need those files! they are components of the virus! search for them in the registry and delete them!

Reply: (edit)Thank you Dr. Vinny, you are quite correct and I have found this out since I posted my first letter. I am still having problems though booting up my system, without getting stack faults in the programs that are in my start up group. I do know that some of my system files were altered though and I don't now which ones. The virus, crossing fingers, is gone......all 3 files deleted, my registry corrected as well as my win.ini file. This Trojan is very very wicked indeed !!
