HI. I am desperate for help!! I came back from vacation and found that I was not able to run any CD's. Then, I discovered the little speaker icon next to my clock(sound icon) was gone and realized I have no sound at all. Its suppose to be soundmax digital integrated audio. I tried to reinstall it, but I get an error messege that says the .DLL file cannot be found. I just dont get it. Can anyone tell me how to get my sound back? I am going crazy without it, and my kids not being able to play CD's. Do I have to take the computer in and pay to have it fixed or can I do it myself (I hope :))I dont know what all info you need to know to help me, either. The company who made this computer went out of business so no help from them. thank you in advance!!!

You can get the icon back by going ino the control panel, multimedia settings and click on show icon in taskbar. i have the same integrated sound card in PIV. i used to get the error until i went in safe mode and uninstall soundmax and then reinstall windows and then reinstall soundmax

I am having a similar problem, missing volume icon in task bar, you can get volume control onto your desktop by clicking on the start buttom, go into programs then onto accesories, scroll down to entertainment and you should then see a volume cotrol which you can move to your desktop, at least you will be able to hear now. I have not managed to get my icon back yet, good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I tried both idea's and no luck. When I clicked on "multimedia settings" nothing happened, at all. Same with when I clicked on "volume control". I think my whole sound system is gone. Someone suggested that my sound card was screwed up and needed to be replaced. Has anyone had to replace theirs before? Also, if your soundcard goes bad, does your volume icon just "disappear" as well as the volume controlls ? I just think that's strange---it just was gone one day. Thanks for any help!
