every time I try to boot up I get a strange vxd error and then the computer shuts itself down. Then if I do a Step by Step Confirmation Boot, it will work fine. even if I say yes to everything. Please help

Hi Timberwolf,
Your problem is very strange! That reminds me of a similar event... not exactly what you describe: the comp didn't shut down but permitted to go to another Vxd message... solved by an increase of the Stacks number (MinSPx= in System.ini [386Enh]) I'm eager to read other posts!

P.S.: I never tried a step by step start... interesting solution! ;-)

its possible that your system doesn't need the vxd in question...the message should tell you which vxd it is...after getting to windows look for the vxd file in WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder(or use FIND)...right click on file and choose PROPERTIES, then choose VERSION tab. click thru the list that appears and you may discover which program uses that vxd and delete it if its not neccessary

Hi sswilshire,
I found you post very interesting and wanted to experience that! ... I couldn't find the names of the programs using the various .Vxds I chose! I just saw Language, origin name of the file, product name, internal name, organization and product version! Where do you see the names of the programs that use that .Vxd?
