I dont hear nay sound from my PC....

I can't Play using my Media Player because of the sound issue....

I'm hoping to reinstall my sound card driver, but I dunno how to do it?

Any steps you can give me? How do I know what my sound card is? Where do I find the information for my sound card?

Morning dex_dx,

I will get this started before heading off to work.

First thing needed is a little more information.

(1) What O/S are you using, i.e, '95, '98, etc.?

(2) Did you ever have sound?

(3) If you previously had sound, what were you doing when you first noticed your sound wasn't working?

(4) Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Systems > Device Manager > and check to see if there are any 'Yellow Explanation Marks or Red Warning signs'in the 'Sound,Video and Game Controllers' area. If so, by what item?

(5) Is your sound icon showing in your task bar? If not, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Multimedia > and make sure "Show Volume Control on the taskbar" is checked. If it is in your task bar double click on the icon and make sure none of the volume settings are set on 'mute'.

(6) A few programs available to help identify your sound card are (a) Belarc Advisor, (b) Lavalys' Everest Home Edition and (c) Msinfo (this one might already be on your computer).

However, if you can answer the above questions someone much more knowledgable than myself will come along and be more likely able to help you.

Regards and good luck,

Phil

I did step#4 and there are no error marks, infact all devices are working properly....

However, when I did step#5, my multimedia properties for AUDIO and MIDI are (all of its choices) disabled....

This is probably why I don't see my volume control in my taskbar....

What do I do......

Hi,

Home from work. When you go to Mutimedia and click on Audio is the 'Show Volume Control on Taskbar' checked? If not, check it, and then reboot.

What operating system are you using? It is important to know this because I am running Win95 and the screen you are looking at for Multimedia may be different if you are running Win98 or better.

Regards,

Phil

MY OS is Windows 98SE, the audio device is working, but my multimedia property says that the "Driver is enabled but inactive due to unknown problem".

MY Sound Card is:
CMI8738/C3DX PCI AUdio Device.

Would it be better if I just reinstall the driver?.

Is there any other way I would be able to find my OS Windows 98SE driver...just in case.......????

Where do I find it?

Thanks !!!

Morning dex_dc,

I am afraid your problem is more advanced than my limited knowledge can handle.

So, at this point I will back off and let someone with much more expertise take over. Be patient and I am sure one of the regulars will be along to help you out.

You never have said if the "Show Volume Control on the Taskbar" from your Multimedia screen is 'checked or unchecked'?

Hope somebody figures out your problem. Good luck!

Regards,

Phil
