here is my story. I installed the beta version of windows 98 upgrade on my 95 OS about a year(big mistake!). It was working fine till recently that I would get this weird message everytime saying that the version had expired. Anyway, then I tried to uninstall it but it didn't work. Then I reinstall a full version of 98 on my machine, it works fine only the problem is everytime I turn on the computer the machine freezes and I have to reboot it to get in. Basically I need to reset the computer once before I can actually get into the system. NOw I am trying to get rid of 98 all together but I can't , and I have problems with DOS, I can't even get to DOS anymore unless I use the start up disk. Any idea or suggestion what so ever?

Boot on the Win98 boot disc that you made. At the A: prompt type fdisk. Choose YES or 'Y' at the first screen. Delete the primary, other partitions and logical drives. Create a primary and other partitions if you want them. Make the primary partition active. Reboot. Format EACH partition. format C:, format D: etc. Reboot with the floppy, choose cdrom support. Put the Win98 cd in the cdrom. Type D:\ SETUP

hi i have a windows 98 and have display problems.adaptor was set to standard pci graphics adaptor(vga) which would only give me a setting choice of 2 color or 16 color and a maximum of 640*480 pixels. now i suspected that the driver was at fault so i went looking for a driver and found one from macronic mx86250 dirrect draw ver 2.08 . i loaded the driver via update and standard pci adaptor changed to mx86250 which was ok. now a have a setting that i can change to 256 color and 800*600 pixels which it will change, but when i shut windows down and then restart the display comes up with multiple screens or narrow image with speckle colours in it. the driver i loaded was more for windows 95 i feel. your veiws would be most appreciated. also was thinking of getting rid of windows 98 but dosent seem to be an uninstall command in add remove programs. is there some where else windows 98 can be uninstalled. it has fat 32 runing but as far as i know there are no compressed files. kind regards ian.

I wanted to uninstall Win98 - but there was no option to do so (I wasn't offered the option to save my DOS/Win 3.11 files as far as I remember). So I deleted the directory WIN98. Now I can neither install Win95 (it says I'd have to get an upgrade) nor can I install Win98 again because the installation routine crashes(!) with a protection fault after I type in the serial number. But it has worked before! I can't make anything of that... So what can I do? I've tried virtually everything... I suppose I'm gonna blame it on MS!
