Reply: (edit)When you partitioned the drive did you use the sys command( format c:/s )? An invalid system disk simply means the disk isn't bootable. Go into the Bios and make the 1st boot the CD drive. Place your Win98 CD in the drive and reboot. Just follow the screen prompts. If you have a fairly recent computer then LBA is good. Try looking to the left side of the screen at the INSTALL GUIDES. Good luck!

Reply: (edit)I went and reformatted the drive using format c:/s and then I went into Bios and made CD drive my 1st boot and rebooted..Ok now I am starting to get somewhere but I still have a problem. 1 it said start windows 98 setup from CD-ROM well all it does is give me the devive name, transfer mode and number of drives. 2 says start computer with CD-ROM support and it does the same as one did..But it won't do anything else..

Reply: (edit)Hi when you used fdisk on hdd did you set a active partition? if you did not, you need to do so. did you say yes to 'i think its called' large drive support which is FAT32? I do not run fdisk very often so dont remember all:( "one start windows with cd rom support it won't do anything" expand on ,won't do anything. it just sits at that display? gives a error? or freezes a little later? ?

Reply: (edit)You should see if the person that gave you the PC has all the system disk and run them. You also shouldn't install XP if you don't know the CPU speed and how much ram you have.XP requires at least 128 Mb 256 Recremended.
