I am trying to find a fix for hyperlinks not working in IE6. I read how to fix this in outlook express. How can I fix it in IE6. It is very frustrating. I click on a link and the computer hangs for a minute then refreshes with errors. HELP!

Inge,

There is a file, Urlmon.dll, that exists in some Registry keys, that when its default value setting points to an invalid location, the resulting action may be the problem you are experiencing.

Try the following and see if it solves the problem:
Quit all programs that are running.
Click Start>Run, and
type: regsvr32 urlmon.dll and click OK.
When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not take care of the problem, try the following:
-Go to Start>Find>, and enter: hosts. Open each Hosts file and delete the URLs. Make sure you do not delete the Hosts sample files.

Take a look at this article in the Microsoft knowledge base:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;NL;q272322

Try the following:

Go to IE>Tools>Internet Options>Programs and select the check box for IE to check if it is default browser. Shut down, restart IE, when it asks to be default browser, select: yes.

Also, go to Start>Run, and type each line, one at a time, then click OK:

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

A dialog box notifying you that your dll has been registered successfully should appear every time you do this.

After registering all the dlls, reboot, and see if the problem is fixed.

By the way. What I found to be very strange is that mine works fine and is using the short file names. His would not though??
Both Win98SE, both O.E. 5.5

Both are now fine but I did find that for some reason unknown to me some work with the short file names while others must be configured using long file names.

Good Day!
Mesich
