I had installed InCD from Nero, and restarted my computer, and it ceased to work after about 10 seconds. I changed the Windows shell and that bought me time to delete the files that were causing problems. I realize now that there were more problems for it, my cd-rw no longer works. It is a Samsung SW-224B if that helps. I think InCD had something to do with it, I can't find drivers for it (if any came with it) so I don't want to risk deleting it from the system. How can I delete InCD manually since the uninstaller is no longer an option?

Win98 has a built in CD driver, so there is no need to install one. The recording driver is part of the Recorder software.
I would suggest booting up in safe mode and deleting any CD drivers (in the Device Manager). Reboot and windows should reinstall the driver.

I reinstalled it, it didn't work. I seriously need to know how to manually delete InCD, I believe that is what is causing the problem.

Hi y'all,

Go to start/run/....type in msconfig, click ok..
Click the startup tab and take the check out of InCD...That will stop it from starting...

Hope it cures.

Hi y'all,

I would reinstall the InCD/packet-writing, from the Nero disk, that will get you back the uninstaller, and if InCD gives you other problems, just uninstall...

Hmm... well, I reinstalled it and uninstalled it and the problem is still there. I guess InCD wasn't the problem exactly. It won't read or write any CDs.

Are you running a cd-rom with the burner?
Is the burner hooked up as the master, on the secondary IDE?

(I had installed InCD from Nero, and restarted my computer, and it ceased to work after about 10 seconds. )

What ceased? The burner or the PC..?

I'm with beansoup, what exactly doesn't work. You may not be aware of it, but InCD will only write to CDRW media. Not really an option I would choose. I suggest you delete the files that you know to be InCD files and then run a registry cleaner. The cleaner should find the stray registry entries then. Did you have other burner software previously installed? They don't like to play nice with one another.

I knew it only writes CD-RW. I had DirectCD from Roxio a loooooooong time ago, but thats it. The drive is secondary, and my PC stopped working (that is fixed, it turned out to be a file in the system folder). The drive can be opened and closed from windows, but it will not read or write discs.

Roxio allows you to use CDR media with their Direct CD. Thats why I mentioned it. Try booting from a Win98 setup floppy to start computer with CDrom support. See if the drive can read disks from there. If it can't, then I think you have a dead drive. If you can read files, then obviously it is a windows/software problem.

Hi Bennyboy, Sam, Beansoup, OtheHill, hello everyone,

Bennyboy,

Is the drive set as Master or Slave on the Secondary IDE?

What other device is connected to the Secondary IDE and is it set as Master or Slave?

Can you see the drive in My Computer?

Best Regards,
Mesich

Its the slave, I don't think anything else is connected to the secondary IDE but I'm not sure. I see it in My Computer, I can open it and close the drive from there.

OtheHill: Where can I get or make a setup floppy?

Look on the left side of the screen on this forum. There is a how to section. Go to: How to make a boot disk.

I have a similar problem.

I updated InCD because for some reason Nero stopped working, it just crashed whenever I'd click the "burn" button. I was thinking it may be a confict with some software I recently added (maybe Media Player 9).

Unfortunately on rebooting my machine, I have the login menu appearing (Win 98 2ndE) and even though I have the startup music, the system just hangs after that and does nothing. On the off chance that I can display the "close window" menu, it says "Explorer (non responding)"

I accessed windows manually through Linux which is installed on a separate partition of the same HArd Drive and removed the contents of c:\program files\ahead\incd but it didn't change anything. I tried running the rescue CD and same thing, it didn't change anything.

If anyone has any idea, that would be really appreciated.

Thanks

-Jean-Loup
