Using a HP LaserJet 4000 on a Windows 98 PC, connected directly via LPT port.
Frequently have a problem printing. For example, I will print a document from MS Word. The doc I want to print doesn't print out, instead a page prints out that reads:
45X@PJL JOB NAME="Microsoft Word - docname.doc"
@PJL COMMENT "Context data is not available"
@PJL COMMENT "Username: jdoe"
@PJL SET RET = ON
@PJL SET DUPLEX = OFF
@PJL SET ECONOMODE = OFF
....etc, etc.this is followed by 20 or so blank pages or pages with some garbled text printed on top. When I attempt to print the same document again, it prints out fine.
Attempted to reisntall the printer drivers and that doesn't appear to do anything. Any help will be appreciated. Don't like wasting the paper :)

You may try to download another driver from hp. Sounds like a driver problem to me.
Look at this hp site:
http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/get_doc.pl?SNI=lj4000&LC=printers&Tfile=bpl06361

Are you sure you are connected straight into the computer, Not routed thru
PC -> Scanner -> printer, as something like that happened to me, I just disconnected the scanner

not straight through. PC also has a color printer, so both are connected to a switch, which in turn is connected to the PC.
