Hi
I am trying to restore a HP Pavillion but I get the following errors

Himem.sys, Dblbuff.sys, and Ifshlp.sys are missing or corrupt.
Registry configuration error
Insufficient memory

This is the first time this computer has been restored(or tried). Can someone help me out with this? Thank you in advance.

What is the number on the front of the case? Have you looked it up on the HP site? Did you choose to format and restore? The only time I have seen a problem with restoring one of those computers was when some new ram was put in...It screwed up everything (the cdrom did not work correctly, some files would not extract, ect, ect). Have you added anything new? Does the restore cd look to be in good shape?

first time the restore cd has been used and there were no changes. could a virus have caused this?

I don't know if a virus could cause this but they can do a lot of things now. I also don't know why your restore disk would not restore those things if there have been no hardware changes. I would try again and choose format (which should erase all) and restore (which should restore to previous state). Have you chosen format and restore?

Use a start up disk to get to the a: prompt, then type format c: and hit enter. It will ask if you are sure, etc....say yes. This will format the hard drive and you should be able to restart the computer and do a clean install of your operating system. Good luck.

You have not posted back to say whether or not you have used the format and restore command from the restore disk and if it worked or not?
I would use Donnah's suggestion if format and restore could not work. The format command did not come on my win98se boot (a) disk. I had to add it.
