Hello,
I have a HP deskjet 970Cxi. I have come to switch it on and there is no power, I have tried different power leads and none seem to do the job! Can anyone please tell me, has the printer had it or are there any fuses etc inside which may have blown???

Thanx in advance

Hi Mate

Can you tell me if you can smell a burning smell from your Printer??....my HP Scanner blew last week and i pulled it apart and checked the Fuse which was still OK...but found a small board which has blown.
HP are known to short curcuit just after there warranty has expired

Hiya,
Naa didn't smell any burning smell, it's coincidence actually that I had just put a slave hard drive in my computer - came to boot it up and the printer wouldn't power on. I have found a small fuse on the back of the board behind the power plug insert. I have put a volt meter on this and it shows no sign of life! Just wondered how hard would it be to change this fuse???

If the fuse is a "Soilded" type i would leave it to the pros unless you have Solidering skills with curciut boards....if it is one you can easy pull out take it to a store and ask for an identical volt/Amp fuse and just reinstall it

Let's assume that the fuse just died or something shorted just that one time and not for another reason such as a bad component or a dead short. Fuses are not very expensive and are not all that difficult to 'replace'.
Hopefully there are markings on the fuse or the board which show the amps of the fuse. Find a replacement at any electronics store. Place damp tissue under and/or around the old fuse to catch any solder that may drop on the circuit board. Scratch the old fuse at the terminal ends, add a little soldering pase with let's say a tooth pick. Place the new fuse on top of the old one and solder. Blow dry the board or just wait to test. Ergo, you add not replace.
Sorry, a little wordy this morning.

Hope this helps.......ck
