Comment: running a hp pavilion 6630. w98 was already installed. updated to w2000 pro. system crashed. tried recovery disks. they did not work. reformatted drive and installed w98 from another disk. w98 can't find modem, pci system manager bus, secondary ide controller(single fifo) and also, pci communication device. cleaned hp recovery disks and tried to restore/recover. disks won't work. tried using start, run, open and received a message that "the recovery disks only work on hp pavilion". ran fdisk and repetitioned. reformatted. tried hp re covery disks. still didn't work. is there a driver for the hp recovery disks? made cd drive #1 for booting.

Reply: (edit)I have a HP 6535, partitoned hard drive, and was installing win 95 on second partition and somehow lost masterboot record of drive C: and could not use restore disc's. So I reformatted and had to install windows off of a win98se disc......I to had problems finding drivers............they are on one of your disc's........I went to my CD rom drive after inserting the disc, clicked on explore and copied the drivers file over to my second partition and loaded all drivers from there.....the restore CD's I believe are Ghost images and once you format your drive you cannot reuse to install your operating system.......you might be able to get in touch with HP but i believe they would have to get your drive to recognize the disc's.........anyway I am still using mine and i don't have all that factory clone garbage on it..... later BN
