I have a new hp laptop w/ vista home on it and an old desktop w/ 98se on it. They are networked together w/ a zyxel router (wireless) and dsl internet. I got a new lexmark x2580 printer. I want to add the printer to my network but I can't get it to install on the desktop; I also have a netgear usb print server installed. My question is: Is ther anyway to get the desktop to print to the printer w/out actually intalling the printer? I tried installing the printer but the software that came w/ the printer does not support win 98. Is there a generic driver that might work or some other way to get it to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If WinME drivers ARE available you might try them. I have seen printer drivers that covered 95/98/ME. Can't say if that is the case with Lexmark. Personally I would never buy a lexmark printer, just on principle.
