HP Deskjet Streaking Problem

Comment:

My HP 820Cse Deskjet printer is about
2 years old. Lately, some of the
black print looks incomplete (i.e.
horizontal streaks). I've replaced
and cleaned the cartridges and the
the contacts in the printer, itself.
Still get the problem.
Sometimes the problem goes away when
"best" print is used, but not always.

Any advice, or do I need a new
printer?

When using a DeskJet your using ink. Well the ink runs so you will have to clean all the rollers and all the parts that make contact with the paper. You should also clean out the resevour on the right hand side of the printer (where your head parks after it's finished printing) This all can be done with rubbing alchohal and a lot of Q-tips.

Overall james gave you good advice, execpt for one small part, do NOT use rubbing alcohol. Use plain old water, NOTHING else. Go to http://www.hp.com/support/cleanprint for step by step procedure.

I cleaned the cartridges and the tank on the right side but still streaking. It looks as though something is dragging on my 3-year old 660C. What should I do?

My 3year old 680C has the same problem; have not manually cleaned but done all test and cleaning in toolbox. Prints in color beautifully, only affects black. It occasionally makes a racheting noise when printing, but can't find any reason why. Is it the printer or the cartridge? Help!

Have had a 660cse for 3+ years and the streaking has become really aggrivating over the past 6-9 months. The economy settings work best and virtually eliminate the streaking if you don't mind reading gray text. There must be a better solution.

After receiving an "HP Cleaning Kit", I installed the software. In trying to clean my printer, I continually get the same message. Series 600 series LPT1 not found. I believe everything is connected correctly.
Thanks.

I service approx 100 of these for the company i'm with. The streaking problem is common. Over time the small particles from the paper get caught under the cartridge holder. If you remove your cartridges, and and reach your finger way underneath the plastic carriers, you'll be shocked to find dust and paper particles in a black goey blob. It only takes a small spec of this under here to make streaks. Use a moist paper towel to reach under there, get it as clean as possible. Water works great, no other chemicals are needed.

My question is, how do I go about using the Cleaning kit that was included with the new ink cartridge? We don't have PC software or CD-ROM with Webtv.

The HP Cleanprint software which came with some carts I bought recently is USELESS. It won't run from the CD, it won't install to the hard drive. Nice idea, bad implementation. And no downloadable, bug free version! BRILLIANT. My version numbers were BV 2/00 5184-9512 if any HP engineers are supe-ing this list..
I service many, many of these for a shop in Tacoma Washington. The black streaks between letters are referred to as "Brush strokes" or "Japanese Brush" - just like traditional ink brush calligraphy.
The white voids, or missing printhead nozzles, are a different problem.
Brush Strokes are caused by dust / hair / paper fibers caught under the CARRIAGE (the part the CARTRIDGES fit into) and is easy to clean:
Dampen a photographer's wipe or lint-free paper with WATER, and fold the edge about 2 inches along the longest side, for strength. Take this piece and slip it under the carriage, (with both printheads removed and the power off) - and pull the paper with both hands from side to side and then remove, and REPEAT. Three or four times, or until the paper comes back CLEAN.
This will remove the major brushes hidden under the carriage, but will not fix the problem - cheap paper, dusty environment, seldom used equipment, dusty capping station (The HOME POSITION of the cartridges). Clean the rubber capping unit with AMONIA if it is too crusty, if you want to keep the machine; or else use 90% isopropyl alcohol if you hope to service the unit again in six months...for a DISSOLVED capping unit...)

By the way, the poly wipe stickers which come with the cleanprint kit are a good idea and do not seem to need software to use. Just be reasonable and don't scrub too long or use too much pressure. Act like a printer, side to side, no pressing down.

Hope this helps!

My HP 693c is always giving me black ink streaking, the color side is never a problem, why is this. I find myself printing all my letters and paperwork in dark blue or another color other than black. This is really very very very bad, I need help.

I have an HP DJ 682C and used the CD cleaning program and cleaning pads that came with a new cartridge. Things started out OK after I changed the resolution of my screen as the original display at 1024x768 was unusable. Got the first sheet out of the printer and stuck the cleaning pads on the paper as directed. Then I did the actual cleaning. The cleaning paper and pads came out, my printer power light went out and when I powered off and on again the printer won't do anything - it is totally locked up and useless. Neither the power button nor the eject button works and print jobs just pile up and hang. Reinstalling the printer does nothing. My printer is now a piece of junk.
HP appears to have joined Firestone/Bridgstone and Ford in showing how to ruin the reputation of a major company in one easy step.
If I don't get some satisfaction out of HP soon I guess some lawyers may get rich.

I also have used, and recommend to others to buy, HP servers and printers. Now I tell them buy Sun or Dell servers (depending on OS) and all the non HP printers all are looking much, much better to me. And the experience of having installed an HP scanner about two years ago means I now pass up HP in all my buying decisions. Others may wish to do the same.

I have a Deskjet 612C. I just used this HP cleaning kit for the first time last night, and I was amazed at the "gunk" that came off of the heads. Does anyone here know the phone number to HP so I can order another cleaning kit.
Also, VERY important. DO NOT use rubbing alcohol when cleaning any printer. Believe me you'll be very sorry you tried it!
