Subject: HP DeskJet 500C Driver for Win98
Comment:

I have upgraded my PC to Win98 from 95. My printer is used to work when I had win95. But after the upgrade It does not work. Basically it hangs-up when I select a driver for HP 500C from the available choices. I do get a message saying that.. "TEST PAGE is printing..." and actually nothing happens at the printer. Is there any way I can get a copy of print driver for HP Deskjet 500C for WINDOWS 98 ????????

If you follow the process for adding a new printer (Start/settings/printers/add printer) there is actually a driver available with Win98 itself. I haven't tried it yet but I'm assuming it SHOULD work! (I hope :o)

There are also drivers there for the rest of the 500, 600 800, 1200 and 1600 ranges.

Alas, i too have faced the dramas of tracking a hp 500c driver for win 98 - no luck - i have just purchased a epsom stylus for quarter of the price i paid for the hp and it is a little ripper! "photographic quality"! well, nearly ;)

I join the ranks of frustrated searchers for a 500C driver. Maybe it's a Klingon thing and has a cloaking device

To install your HP500C do the following:-
1) In windows 98 go to start, click settings, and select printers.
2) Double click add printer.
3) click next.
4) Select local printer then click next.
5) In the manufacturer list, choose HP.
6) In the printer list choose the model of your printer.
7) Click next.
8) Choose the port (usually LPT1), and click next.
9) Select yes if you want this printer to be your default printer or select no if you only want this printer to handle selected print jobs then select next to continue.
10) Click finish to complete the installation.
11) Once the installation is finished, your printer will be listed in the printers window (click start, then settings, then printers).
12) Close the printers window and print.
Hope this works for you - it worked for me!

The 500c driver is not listed on my windows 98 second edition cd. I'm searching the virtual planet, and I'll see if I can find it.
