I have an HP Pavilion 6535 running Win98. It comes with a 2 disk set of recovery disks. One disk for system recovery and a second for application recovery. Last week I had need to restore the system, but when I tried to use the system recovery disk it would not work. I did a format and fresh install of Win98 on my own so now I'm back up. However, now my application recovery disk will not run on my machine! When I inset the disk into the CD drive I get an error message stating that this disk will operate only on an HP computer.
Is there some hidden file that I have to create or a setup command that I need to perform that will allow the application recovery disk to recognize my machine as an HP?
Also, does anyone have a "working" system recovery disk for an HP Pavilion 6535 (433 Mhz Celeron with Win98) that I could get a copy of?
Thanks in advance!
Larry

Larry...Have you changed 'ANYTHING' since purchase of your HP. I have 6630 and HP techs advised me that each set of disc is built and designed for each model configuration. If you change anything, add hardware, swap ROM for RW, the disks will not longer work. You have to put everything back to original for them to function.

Binksfan,
Thanks for your reply. You really hit the bulls-eye! I replaced the CD-ROM drive with the origional one that came with the machine and the restore disk worked! Oddly enough, it didn't seem to matter that I had a network card installed or that I had added additional memory, it was only the new CD drive that was causing the restore disk to not function.
Thanks again for your valuable reply!
