Maybe I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish, but ...
You don't need autorun to play a file on a CD by double clicking it. It should play the same as an MP3 file on your hard drive.

if you place the autorun file in the cd, it can be any drive to autorun

e.g. if i place autorun.inf to autorun an installation from a cd, the cd can be placed in any computer and in any drive to autorun the installation. (assuming that the autorun is enabled from windows)

P.S. autorun.inf not autorun.ini

hi
thanku for your reply . what i want is , when i double click any of my drive(partition) in hard disk ,i want a song to be played in that partition in winamp automatically (not form the cd). tell me how to do this.
i have created autorun.inf in one of my drive and in that i wrote
[autorun]
open=track1.mp3

but this is not working . when i double click the songs is not being played.it is simply showing the drive contents as it normally does.

As far as i know you cannot do that, you can do it only on optical drives. Let me know if you can do it on harddrives too. Thanks

It is possible. I had it happen to me accidentally. What I did was I copied the entire Windows install CD onto one of my drive partitions. This was a clean partition, just formatted. What happened was that when I clicked on the drive I got the Windows install menu. I had to use the Explore button to get to the Directory.

So I know it is possible but don't ask me how to duplicate it.

Also the Icon that the drive displayed was like the CD icon. This was Win 98 SE.
