hi i was wondering, i dont have a working soundcard, and was wanting to watch a video with the sound working. i have a cd rom that has a headphones jack on it. can i watch a video with sound form a cd in the cd rom? thanks, and if i can, please tell me how.
the jack on the front of the CD ROM is only for the CD ROM itself, no other sounds can be heard from it. You will need a soundcard.

Hello Grayspot, It's very rare to find a computer without a soundcard with a windows 98 computer. Some manufactorer used to stick the soundcard with the mothercard, to get a cheaper price into the building configuration. To know if you have a soundcard integrated into a mothercard, you just open your computer and read all information on the card where you will see your processor installed too, If you don't feel enough experimented to do it, ask a friend to help you, very easy... This is only after this go and see that you will be able to reinstall maybe drivers to make it work. Just a subsidiary question ? do you have speakers installed to your computers ? if not this is another reason not to hear anything....

Yeah, the hphone jack should let you listen to audio CDs, whether that would work with VCD files... I'm doubtful.
Should be able to pickup an older card for $10 - $20 maybe less.
