When I bought my new computer from Gateway they did not give me any instrustion on how to use my CD/RW. I can copy something to a RW disc and bring it up on my computer, but not on someone elses. I know I'm doing something wrong. I have never used a CD/RW before. Can anyone teach me how to do this or quide me to where the instructions are on the net?

What application are you using with your CDR? Explain more before you ask a question like that, it's like saying 'How long is a piece of string' Reply back and I will try to explain the basics, although I am surprised there was no documentation included with your pc if you bought it from Gateway.

you need to use a program to close the cd so that you can use it on someone else's computer. When you first put the cd in the cdrw, it should have given you an option. You can either leave the disc open or close it so that it can be used on other cd players, otherwise it thinks that you want to add more later and will not close it. If you recieved software to operate the cdrw, go to the help. I use creatacd or direct cd. Both have the option of leaving the cd open or closing. you can find more information about the product at http://www.roxio.com/en/products/ecdc/index.html (formely adaptec)

The reason why you can only read it on your computer is because it's writeing using packet writer such as adaptec's directcd. You need to burn it using normal CD burning software.
Or the person's drive isn't multiread capable and can't read RW's
