Subject: How to swap IP addresses on bootup? |
Comment: In order to use a dell latitude p166mmx notebook at two sites on different networks I need to change my IP address. Can I do something on bootup to prompt myself to select a site and then the rest could be automatic? I am using MS Windows 95.

Reply: (edit)I think I have a suggestion. Hop to a dos prompt (Not a dos window, make sure windows is not running) and type regedit /? That'll list options for dos regedit. Use the command switch to export a copy of your registry. Search the file for references to the ip you had set up. Delete the sections that do not apply and you'll have a small registry patch file. Name it ip1.reg or something to your desire. Copy it and edit it again, changing all the references to the first ip with the second. The menu is easily done with boot files, and there are many help files on the net for that. Set it so on menu choice #1, regedit will import ip1.reg into your registy and menu choice #2 will import ip2.reg Sorry it's a bit confusing, but I'm sure a few others will be able to clear that up for you.

Reply: (edit)You should be able to create 2 different hardware profiles in Win95 and specify a different IP address in each profile. Then Win95 will prompt you which hardware profile you want to use on boot.
