hey mike !!

to sop pop ups from opening, you should disable your javascripte which will disable any site from opening new windows..

Email me if this doesn't work at neversummer13@hotmail.com

For Internet Explorer Version 5

Go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, select the security tab, press the Custom Level... button, scroll down to Active Scripting and select Disable.

For Internet Explorer Version 4

Go to the View menu, select Internet Options, select security, select custom (for expert users), push the Settings... button, scroll down to Active scripting, and select Disable. This does not disable java applets.

For Internet Explorer Versions Less Than 4.0

Click on View, then Options, then Security, Turn "Run ActiveX Scripts" off in the Active Content section, then click "apply" and OK.

For Netscape Communicator: 4.0, etc.

Click on Edit, then Preferences, then Advanced (the word, not the plus or minus sign next to it), then find the box titled Java Script and disable the Java Script by unchecking the box. Then, click OK.

For Netscape: 3.0, 3.1 etc.

Click on Options, then Network Preferences, then Languages, then find the box titled Java Script and disable the Java Script by unchecking the box. Then, click OK.

If you are using Netscape, and you want to keep javascript on, and kill consoles as soon as they pop up, you can hit control-W or Alt-F4 to kill them.

AOL 4.0 users:

My AOL > Preferences > WWW > Security > Custom > Settings > Disable Active Scripting.
For AOL users:

Click on Members, Click on Preferences, Click on WWW, Click Tab that says Security, uncheck JavaScript under active controls at the bottom of the security tab. You can leave Java and ActiveX on if you like.

In each case, you are simply turning off Java Script, which is the programming language that tells your browser to "create" a pop-up window. To turn Java Script back on, just go back and undo the change you made. I switch back and forth all the time, for instance if I find that during a particular session of browsing that I am visiting a lot of member pages at Geocities I turn Java scripting off so that I don't get those pop-up ads in the upper left corner every time I change pages. If you come upon a page that needs scripting to perform a useful function, turn the scripting back on and refresh the page.

For Internet Explorer Version 5

Go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, select the security tab, press the Custom Level... button, scroll down to Active Scripting and select Disable.

Thankyou for repling to this post. That is something that has been bugging me also and I didn't have a clue that it COULD be changed.

If I am correct these pop ups are simply extra windows that open up from particular sites. Usually advertisements?

Will I notice anything else? Any Problems or things I won't see that I should?
Paula

I did this. Then I went to my online mail account. Checked mail and the page said I must have a browser that supports frames to view this page. Tried this over and over to be sure. Re-enabled the active scripting and all is well.
Not what I expected. sigh

Here's another alternative to your popup windows. Go to this website and download the free program POW.
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pow.htm There may be some popup windows that you want to view. With this program, you decide. I always run POW when I surf the net. Once I have entered a popup window into this program, it never comes up again. However it still allows me to take a look at anything new before I banish it forever.

Hope this helps.

Tom

Yes, this trick actually does work and without disabling java. Make sure you get the right selection in the menu. It is not one of the first ones you see, you have to scroll down to it. It will say exactly "active scripting". Do not switch off one of the first ones you see that have 'scripting' in their titles as these are for Java scripting.
