If you don't find it try FDISK /MBR and formatting with MS-DOS format.com ver 4.00. Also try low level formatting. I have come to the conclusion--probably incorrectly--that software trying to shut you down often damages track 0. If you find such a utility, post the address here.

I vaguely remember track 0 is used for the partition table. If that single track is bad the whole HD is useless. Try look up the manufacturer's websites, they may offer a utility to diagnose it first.
