What is wrong with that comp?

This is like asking your doctor "how can I treat my friend" without telling the doc whats wrong with him....

Pop in the windows 98 cd and find win98 folder and type setup. That is if you want to save some info that was on the computer. Win98 is better off reinstalled on a freshly formated hard drive.

Does the message say which file is missing? If so, perhaps you could extract it from the Windows 98 SE CD, or get it off another computer. Also, when does this message appear, and is she still able to use Windows?

I would try using the System File Checker to see if you can find out which file is missing. If you find it, the program will give you the option to extract it from the installation CD.

Here are a few links with more info:

If the System File Checker alerts you to the presence of altered files, I wouldn't get too worried about them. Files can be modified, created, or deleted when software is installed or updated (like when a newer version of Internet Explorer is installed).

Good luck, and let us know how it went...
